Why is yogurt marketed towards women

Typically, gendered marketing panders to masculine and feminine stereotypes like pads and tampons that are flowery, and the protein shake powders that are manly. However, companies are starting to widen their horizons. For example, Secret's StressTest commercials are directed towards women, but they don't use feminine stereotypes to sell their product.
In yogurt's case, its history of gendered marketing stems back to the s and s. Low-fat yogurt became a trendy health food and was associated with dieting and weight loss. Since the diet industry mostly caters to women, yogurt companies decided in the s that marketing their products to women would be more effective. By the s, the first large-scale commercial production of yogurt in the United States began in the Bronx, New York, by a company now known as Dannon. And although the marketing of yogurt to women is a purely societal construct, there is an argument to be made for women's health.
Yogurt helps curb vaginal infections. And it also helps mitigate gastrointestinal issues like irritable bowel syndrome IBS and constipation, which women experience at higher rates than men.
But the benefits aren't only for women. Because yogurt has active bacterial cultures that produce lactase, the enzyme that helps people digest lactose, yogurt can be eaten by people who are lactose intolerant. And the calcium in yogurt can help prevent osteoarthritis. So, while many commercials — at least for now — continue to portray women eating luscious spoonfuls of delicious yogurt, there are signs of change. They go mini-golfing, frolic in a meadow, and have a generally romantic time.
It is implied that she will then fuck the yogurt. But yogurt trends have changed over the years: Watery, low-fat, and sugar-laden flavors have given way to the full-fat Greek stuff. And with that, yogurt ads are also beginning to shift how they market their product. Triple Zero is just Greek yogurt plopped in a different-color container and endorsed by Cam Newton with an emphasis on protein, so men can feel more secure eating what has been traditionally marketed as a feminine food.
